information for international participants
Visa
To clarify visa requirements and submit an application, visit the Russian embassy website in your country. Citizens of some countries can obtain a single-entry electronic visa (e-visa) at: https://electronic-visa.kdmid.ru/index_en.html.
We recommend clarifying the application conditions in advance, as timelines and requirements vary depending on citizenship.
Flights and Accommodation
We recommend booking flights as early as possible — closer to the conference dates, the choice of flights may decrease.
Participants arrange their own accommodation. We suggest the following hotels in various price ranges:
Near the Space Research Institute (approx. 10 min by taxi / 20 min by public transport):
Moscow city center (approx. 30 min by taxi / 40 min by public transport):
We recommend booking through zenhotels.com — which supports payment by foreign credit cards and offers a wide selection of Moscow hotels. Please contact us if you need assistance with accommodation.
Important: Even if your reservation was made with a foreign credit card, payment at the hotel upon check-in will typically need to be made in cash. We recommend confirming the payment policy with your hotel in advance.
Note: GPS and geolocation services may be inaccurate in central Moscow (inside the Garden Ring). We recommend using the app Yandex Maps (App Store / Google Play / AppGallery).
How to Get to Moscow
Moscow is served by three major international airports:
  • Sheremetyevo (SVO) — most intercontinental and international flights
  • Domodedovo (DME) — many European and domestic flights
  • Vnukovo (VKO) — various European destinations and domestic flights
From each airport, you can reach the city by:
  • Taxi: Use the Yandex Go app or the Yandex Go service desk at the airport. Cash payment is available in-app and at the desk.
  • Aeroexpress train: All three airports are connected by direct trains to central Moscow railway stations (Sheremetyevo → Belorussky, Domodedovo → Paveletsky, Vnukovo → Kievsky), from where you can take the metro. Tickets are available at ticket offices or vending machines — keep your ticket until you exit through the turnstile.
  • Metro and bus: Each airport also has bus routes to the nearest metro stations.
SIM card
Due to current Russian legislation, foreigners are not able to purchase SIM cards in Russia. Please clarify the eSIM options with your provider before the trip. We also recommend considering international roaming with your home mobile operator.
Free Wi-Fi will be provided at the Space Research Institute for all registered participants. Important: Apple devices might be blocked on the IKI RAS Wi-Fi network. We apologize for the inconvenience.
Payments and Cash
We strongly recommend bringing cash (Russian rubles).
Cash is the most reliable payment method and is accepted everywhere.
You can exchange US dollars or euros at the airport or at city exchange offices. We advise bringing enough foreign currency to cover all expenses for the entire trip.
Foreign bank cards (Visa, Mastercard) in Russia generally do not work.
Electrical outlets
Russia uses a voltage of 220–230 В / 50 Гц. Outlets type C (Europlug, two round pins) and type F (Schuko). Most European plugs will work without an adapter.
